Things That Matter
The content presented on this site is the result and outgrowth of many years of work in anthropology, art history, applied arts, and nature. My academic background is in ethnology and anthropology, and alongside this, I have studied, explored, and researched the field of art.
My main area of research is the material culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, including traditional and folk dress, urban dress, national and folk architecture, household furnishings, and interiors.
The Artful World of Costume Jewellery
Natural Pearls, the Queens of Jewellery
Through my academic and professional interests, I have had the opportunity to encounter exceptional forms of natural beauty, as well as works of human ingenuity and creativity, ways of life, and social culture.
Part of this will be presented on the site through blog posts.
Jewellery
Jewellery is a particular field within dress, in which I study the history of European and world jewellery styles, both antique and contemporary. My research has encompassed jewellery made from organic materials, plastics, alloys, and ordinary, precious, and valuable metals and ores. Through this kaleidoscope of extraordinary forms and jewellery designs, I have come to see how broad a field of the applied arts jewellery represents, while at the same time defining us and speaking about who we are.
Following contemporary jewellery, as well as the fashion and jewellery industries, I will also try to introduce you to and recommend some of the extraordinary creators and jewellery designers working across different styles and materials.
A small glimpse into my fieldwork and professional research, as part of my work as an anthropologist and digital creator
